The Cottages at Summit Square- Encouraging Independence in Memory Support

The Cottages at Summit Square is a memory support center designed using the Montessori Method of caregiving for dementia, an approach which engages residents in a supportive environment and encourages independence. The 21,000 square foot center includes 17 spacious apartments, resident focused dining, and recreational and leisure spaces designed to encourage group and self-engaging activities.  An additional 2,200 square feet is devoted to a secure memory garden where residents enjoy gardening and other outdoor activities.

An open floorplan in which all apartments open onto a central activity center establishes a sense of community and security among residents and caregivers.  The Living Room and Activity Area invite residents to choose from a wide array of activities, while the Training Kitchen & adjacent Dining Area fill the open space with memory-stoking food aromas and encourage resident participation in meal preparation.  A smaller private Den allows residents to retreat when quiet activities such as chess, checkers or movie time are desired.

The color palette established for the Summit Square community is continued throughout the Cottages in a softer, quieter, adaptation.  To give each apartment entry its own distinct character, facades of brick, stacked stone and painted plank siding are featured, creating a neighborhood feel.  Additionally, a variety of door colors establish the individualized entries, while outdoor lanterns, mailboxes, and signage further support a front porch feel.
