The Power of Three
People spend over 90% of their time indoors. At Pye Interiors, we are using our expertise and creativity to design interiors that improve people’s lives.
We are 3 women who are passionate about the power of design.
Our lives have taken us to separate corners of the world, but our commitment to excellence has kept us united as a team.
As designers, we understand the concept of designing for flexibility and change all too well. In 2024 we have been envisioning a more sustainable firm structure, one in which we can focus on different sectors of design depending on our physical office locations in Virginia, Pittsburgh and Padova, Italy, and based on our personal relationships with design. The following stories share our journeys as we individually and collectively explore how we can best utilize the power of design to improve people’s lives.
My purpose is to use my natural abilities for design and strategic thought to better as many people’s lives as possible, by giving back to the community that raised me, by creating spaces that positively impact people and businesses, and by crafting interiors that support wellness. To be able to do the work that I love in the community that I love.
At Pye Interiors, I found the perfect fit in a small, women-owned business focused on providing excellent design solutions in a work environment that emphasized the importance of work-life balance long before it was a popular headline. Being able to provide big city solutions while living in a smaller community has led me to create a community-focused design center for the Virginia-based firm, while my teammates pursue their dreams, expanding the firm’s reach into Pittsburgh and Italy.
My love for design has always been more than pattern, color, and texture. What really drew me to the profession was a deep interest in sense of place. Understanding and creating physical space that supports people and fosters a sense of belonging has always been and continues to be what excites me most about Interior Design.
I studied design at West Virginia University, and in London England for a semester. My experiences as a student solidified my passion for design and architecture and gave me a fresh love of learning and continued education. After college I found a home at Pye Interiors. Working at PI has pushed me and allowed me to do what I love with women who have shaped me, professionally and personally. But there is more to belonging and a true sense of place than simply loving where you work. And so, in 2022, my husband and I saw the opportunity to return to our roots. We moved to my family’s farm outside of Pittsburgh, and there really is no place like home. With the opening of PI Pittsburgh, I’m where I love, and I can continue to do what I love! Designing and collaborating with women who inspire me in every way.
As I celebrated the 20-year anniversary of Pye Interiors in 2015, I felt the pull to plan a different life. Creating, designing, and being an entrepreneur has motivated and fulfilled me for all my adult life, but I was ready for a change. After 5 years of dreaming and planning, my family & I made our big move to Padua, Italy. Precipitated by a strong desire to live more sustainably, we left our material belongings behind and created a new home and lifestyle in a new country. The results were fantastic! We are now apartment dwellers in the historic center of a medieval city, surrounded by 800-year-old markets and within walking distance of an efficient train system.
Interior design, however, is a part of my identity that cannot be denied. So, when we hatched the plan for me to continue my career through remote working with Pye Interiors, the picture was complete. I can continue doing what I love with two accomplished women whom I respect and admire.
